Do you want to step into guitar chords and techniques that really fit and enhance Irish and Celtic tunes?

Lawson Cannon

In this two-part workshop you will learn very simple procedures in 3-part increments to provide a basic guitar chordal rhythmic accompaniment to any tune in any key.  Class 1 is devoted to learning lower and middle neck clusters of easily played chords in all 4 Irish modes of D. Class 2 is devoted to learning bassline formats to employ alternate strategies for accompanying tunes in other keys, both with a capo and without one.

Both classes will be divided into 3 sections:

  1. Theory
  2. Finger placements for chords
  3. Practice using these chords to accompany LIVE tunes

The workshop instructor is Lawson Cannon, who has been teaching and playing DADGAD rhythm guitar in multiple Celtic bands for over 20 years. The melody player will be Karen Dale on fiddle, leader of the TrailJams Tune Explorer tune learning sessions.

What to bring:

  1. Acoustic 6-string guitar
  2. Electronic tuner
  3. Capo

And, of course, an OPEN mind and eagerness to easily earn and quickly enjoy new guitar skills!
